In Argentina, these phenomena are commonly associated with soy cultivation, which has doubled over the last 10 years to cover 20 million hectares (49 million acres), taking a heavy environmental and social toll. Nevertheless, environmental and social-advocacy groups also worry about another cause of land-use change that, while not as prevalent as soy farming, has grown notably in the past 15 years and caused similar impacts.
