One critical challenge facing environmentally friendly businesses in Latin America is getting another kind of green into their operations—investment dollars. Though more than a few investors say they would like to bankroll such ventures, they often balk at green entrepreneurs’ inexperience in developing and executing high-quality business plans. That’s why the nonprofit World Resources Institute of Washington, D.C., recently staged a competition to assist and showcase sustainable businesses in the region. Organized by WRI’s New Ventures division, the Latin America-wide competition culminated Sept. 26-27 with a forum in Rio de Janeiro.
