More automated recycling centers due in Brazil

Tomra Latasa, Brazil’s largest recycler of beverage cans, is launching an automated, aluminum-can and plastic-bottle recycling program at 50 supermarkets and retail hypermarkets nationwide. The $1 million effort marks the latest in a series of initiatives that has ranked Brazil as a world leader in voluntary can recycling. By mid-year, Tomra Latasa plans to install shed-like recycling centers in the parking lots of 50 supermarkets and discount hypermarkets in five Brazilian cities. Each of the automated facilities will house a pair of reverse-vending machines in which consumers can deposit aluminum cans and plastic (Pet) bottles.
