Aviva Imhof is Campaigns Director for International Rivers, a U.S.-Based nonprofit that promotes protection of the world’s river ecosystems and the communities they sustain. A large share of her work involves tracking hydroelectric projects in Latin America and Southeast Asia and gauging whether governments are adequately weighing their environmental and social impacts. She also works to support local advocacy for rivers and river communities. Imhof was lead organizer of “Rivers for Life: The Second International Meeting of Dam-Affected People and their Allies,” a 2003 conference in Rasi Salai, Thailand. She co-authored the International Rivers publication “Citizens’ Guide to the WCD” and coordinated the group’s report “Power Struggle: The Impacts of Hydro-Development in Laos.” Imhof, who joined International Rivers in 1998, has Bachelor’s degrees in Law and Social Work from the University of New South Wales, Australia.
