The first shipment of soybeans deemed by an international association of producers, environmentalists and other stakeholders to have been produced “responsibly” reached the Netherlands this month from Brazil. Grupo André Maggi, a leading Brazilian soy exporter, sent the 85,000-metric-ton shipment to a group of Dutch food, feed and supermarket companies engaged in a complementary sustainable-trade initiative partially funded by the government of the Netherlands. The shipment, which arrived in Rotterdam on June 8, is the first exportation of soy certified under the Round Table on Responsible Soy Association, an international, multi-stakeholder initiative launched five years ago.
