Oil spills in southern Trinidad have threatened an important breeding ground for regional commercial fisheries, intensifying concern about the condition of Trinidad and Tobago’s oil-industry infrastructure. Since mid-December a total of 11 leaks have been found at offshore and onshore oil platforms, as well as in lines used to transfer oil to vessels from onshore storage sites, according to Petrotrin, the state-owned oil company. Petronin said that four leaks were responsible for the bulk of the spilled oil.
