Guy Edwards, co-director of the Climate and Development Lab at Brown University and associate at Nivela, a global-sustainability strategy group based in Costa Rica, is coauthor of “A Fragmented Continent: Latin America and the Global Politics of Climate Change.” Written with Brown colleague Timmons Roberts, the book was launched on the eve of the recent United Nations climate-change conference in Paris, which Edwards attended. The conference concluded with what many consider a historic accord to limit global warming. Edwards cites Latin America’s role in joining the so-called High Ambition Coalition, which won praise for helping to push the accord through. He points to contributions by Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and Peru, and to the leadership of Christiana Figueres of Costa Rica, executive secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
